Class includes quizzes on all topics, a final quiz of 150 questions at the end of class,
and 50 handouts.

2. Length of class and miscellaneous information:

We estimate the average student can get through the entire course in 24-30 hours and we give you 60 or 90 days of access (your choice). This allows plenty of time to go through the course content, take the quizzes, review, etc.

4. Class Objectives:
This class has three primary objectives:

A. to familiarize students with the essential information contained in the IDEX
® CALIFORNIA CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM;

B. to establish the understanding of what a Certified Interior Designer is, how to submit plans to building departments, in order to practice to the fullest extent of their ability, and to protect the health, safety and welfare of the public;

C. help students pass THE IDEX
® CALIFORNIA examination.


5. Class Goals:
The specific goals of this class that relate to the IDEX
® CALIFORNIA exam and CIDs are:

A. To develop an awareness of:

- The role and responsibilities of Certified Interior Designers.
- The impact of California Building Codes on the public's health and safety.
- The performance and testing of interior finishing materials in the built environment.

B. To develop an understanding of:

- California building departments and the permit process.
- The importance of good business practices, and following a code of ethics.
- Various codes for fire life safety and disabled access.

C. To provide opportunities for students to:

- Explore a multitude of sources for technical, sustainable and environmental implications.
- Pass the IDEX
® CALIFORNIA  exam.


6. Type of class:

This is a self-study, online class. There will be no lectures and no studio component.

The teaching approach of this class requires discipline and independence and encourages self-teaching. Students are expected to read all the materials and take all the quizzes. Students are expected to recall facts, understand ideas, and be able to evaluate information.

The instructor is available to students via E-mail for specific questions or concerns, but there will be no assignments, class discussions, and no grading.


7. Prerequisite information:

A. Students who enroll in this class must already have an interior design education (or equal) and hopefully, some years of experience. This is a prep course for the purpose of passing an exam. It is not intended as a complete education in building codes or interior design.

B. Students need high-speed Internet access, a computer with a Web browser, a printer, the ability to view Adobe Flash and to download and read Adobe .pdf files. This class is compatible with PC and Mac desktop and laptop computers.

Mobile devices: Your iPad or Android mobile device must have a web browser that can render Flash. We have been successful running our class on an iPad using the Puffin web browser that is made for iPad and Android devices see iPad screenshotsWe�ve also seen our class on a few phones (but the screens are too small to make it worthwhile). This said, we cannot offer any warranty of suitability for any mobile or other small screen electronic Internet devices.

C. Students are highly encouraged to first register for the 1-day free IDEX Prep demo class to determine if the lessons, quizzes and handout materials are accessible from and compatible with their computer equipment and web browser. Register for the free trial class at
